Robocop and The Killing's Joel Kinnaman may be joining the ranks of the big screen Suicide Squad.

According to Latino-Review and othe sources, the actor is being eyed to replace Tom Hardy in the role of the squad's field commander, Rick Flag.

The Hollywood Reporter goes one further and claims Kinnaman is "in early talks" for the film.

Hardy dropped out of the project in January; he and Kinnaman actually co-star together in the forthcoming thriller Child 44.

Kinnaman will next be seen as Liam Neeson's son in Run All Night.

David Ayer will direct Suicide Squad, which stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Jared Leto as The Joker, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Jesse Eisenberg is reportedly in talks to reprise his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role as Lex Luthor.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to follow Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as the second DC Comics movie of 2016, opening in theaters on August 5th.
