Nicole Perlman And Meg LeFauve Writers For MARVEL'S CAPTAIN MARVEL

Captain Marvel won’t arrive until July 2018. But it’s already an important part of the Marvel Studios brand, since it’s the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature a lead female protagonist. And now it appears that Marvel is already lining up a creative team for the movie. Many reports have confirmed the news, originally reported by the Hollywood Reporter, that Marvel is looking to hire a pair of female writers to script Captain Marvel. Nicole Perlman was credited as the co-writer of Guardians of the Galaxy alongside director James Gunn; Meg LeFauve co-wrote Pixar’s upcoming head trip Inside Out.

The two haven’t worked together as a writing team before, but Marvel is pairing them up for Captain Marvel. Perlman’s been with the studio for some time—she did some script work on Thor—while LeFauve’s most notable work pre-Inside Out was producing the indie drama The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.

If they’re officially hired onto the project, they’ll be taking on a character with a long and tangled comic book history. The name “Captain Marvel” has been shared by several different protagonists over the years, but the movie will focus on Carol Danvers, who has been starring in an acclaimed Captain Marvel series written by Kelly Sue DeConnick since 2012. Currently, Carol’s a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which could mean we’ll see her in future Guardians films. Captain Marvel is also an Avenger, but everyone’s an Avenger eventually.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters May 1, 2015; Ant-Man on July 17, 2015; Captain America: Civil War - May 6, 2016; Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016; Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - May 5, 2017; Spider-Man reboot – July 28, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018; Black Panther - July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel – November 2, 2018; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 - May 3, 2019; Inhumans – July 12, 2019.
