INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 Adds Maika Monroe as President Whitmore’s Daughter

Just weeks after It Follows scored over $160,000 in one weekend in just four theaters and earned itself a wide release, Maika Monroe has been cast in the highly anticipated sequel to Independence Day.

Director Roland Emmerich made the announcement on Twitter, but THR also chimed in with a few more details. Apparently Monroe will be the female lead in the film, Liam Hemsworth’s character’s love interest and President Thomas J. Whitmore’s (Bill Pullman) daughter, Patricia Whitmore.

Once filming on Independence Day 2 gets underway, Monroe will join Pullman and Hemsworth as well as ID vets Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner and Vivica A. Fox, and newcomers Jessie Usher, Travis Tope, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Joey King. The film is expected to go into production next month and hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
