'Edge of Tomorrow 2' To Be 'A Sequel That’s A Prequel' Says Doug Liman

Doug Liman, director of Edge of Tomorrow, will return for the sequel and is pumped about it, given that he hasn't done sequels for his films. Speaking to Collider, Liman explained a few things about the sequel.

“That is the only sequel that I’m considering doing," said Liman. "It’s because first of all the story is so amazing—much better than the original film, and I loved and loved the original film—and second of all, it’s a sequel that’s a prequel.”

So it appears he's quite confident in what he'll be doing in regards to the Edge of Tomorrow sequel, which he further shows again.

"Yeah, it’s going to revolutionize how people make sequels. It really will," Liman told IGN about how he's excited for making the sequel.

The original film starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, who will return for the sequel, and made $370 million at the box office on a somewhat modest budget of $178 million. It grew a fanbase when it went to Home Media release so hopefully that fanbase will be there when the sequel comes out.
