'The Flash' Loses Rick Famuyiwa

Sad news for those excited for DC Films' The Flash being directed by Rick Famuyiwa. The director has dropped out from directing duties of the film.

The Flash was meant to be in pre-production up until a March 2017 shoot date and a release date  in March 2018, but with this recent bump happening it is unlikely that will happen now.

Rick Famuyiwa was brought on the project back in June of this year after the film losing another director in Seth Grahame-Smith. Rick oversaw the casting choices of Billy Crudup and Kiersey Clemons, as of now it is unclear if they will stay on.

The reasoning for his leave is the classic "creative differences" with the studio, this has happened before with Warner Bros.

"When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day," told Famuyiwa in a statement to THR. "I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force."

The Flash will star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Wonder Woman is slated for release on June 2, 2017; followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, Harley Quinn spinoff, a Man of Steel sequel, The Batman, and a Justice League Dark film are currently without release dates.
