'Thor Ragnarok' Director, Taika Waititi Spills Beans On Reddit AMA

Thor Ragnarok's Taika Waititi went on Reddit for an AMA - Ask Me Anything -  and of course there where question regarding to the film and its secrets. So I compiled quite a lot of the things he talked about in summarised points.

In regards to the film's logo and tone, Taika made it clear that the logo change was made to better represent the film. The logo is inspired by 70's/80's fantasy art and this reflects the tone of the film as well. Taika went on to say that the humour will be more of his own taste and style, and that this film is "out there" in comparison to other MCU films, and will be more of a standalone feature as he is essentially ignoring the other films in the Thor franchise. This also means the Shakespearian tone of the other films may not be present.

Taika further went on to speak of the cast members, noting that he was humbled and fell in love while working with Cate Blanchett, and found that her, Jeff Goldblum, and Anthony Hopkins were "AMAZING. They are gold. Funny. Beautiful people." Working with Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth on the other hand he said the following: "Tom is very polite but has a cheeky streak. Chris has a heart of gold. Actual gold. He had it made and installed in his chest when he got paid for RUSH." A cast member he would've liked to work with was John C. Reilly to reclaim his Guardians role but sadly he couldn't.

He has only this film alone on his Marvel contract and have said that there are no restrictions from them on this film except for some of the story. Taika admitted that he knows nothing about the future of the MCU.

Music wise they probably aren't going to use the old theme form existing Thor films and that Mark Mothersbaugh, the film's composer, will inject his flavour as a new vibe to the MCU.

Other trinkets from his AMA were that Bruce Banner is supposedly going to steal the show, Tessa Thompson has a decent size role, and expect a crazy tone from this film. Also Guardians is his favourite MCU film. He loved the "God of Thunder" run in the comics with the Gor villain. Taika offered up a reason as to why Thor isn't as powerful in the films like he is in the comics saying, "I think it's because you then have to figure out how to make a challenge for Thor. If he's THAT strong then maybe people can't relate to him. I guess I'm saying I don't really know!"

Lastly he mentioned that Thanos will not be in the film given that James Gunn has said that Thanos wouldn't be appearing in Guardians Vol. 2, there may be a Doctor Strange reference, Thor's awesome now, loves the creative freedom of the film, noting that the difference in making such a big-scale film between a more smaller one is the scale and how many people are involved, and finally there is a magnificent shot in the film "that took a bunch of mathematicians and scientists (nerds) a couple of months to figure out" that required a new rig called Satelight that hasn't been used in film before!

Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, with Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.

Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of Marvel’s popular Norse Super Hero, is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Taika Waititi (“Two Cars, One Night,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”).  Kevin Feige will produce the film, joined by executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee. Also the film's composer is Mark Mothersbaugh.

The film will release 3rd of November of 2017.
