'The Mummy' Trailer Introduces Us To Princess Amunet

Welcoming us to a new world of gods and monsters is Universal Pictures' The Mummy. The film is supposedly the start of a Monsters Universe similar to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in this case replace Iron Man with the likes of Dracula and so on. The Mummy will introduces us to not only the world of ancient Egypt but also Dr. Jekyll, from the classic Robert Louis Stevenson story of Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, who will be played by Russell Crowe.

Universal has released a trailer for The Mummy that gives us a sense that this is completely different from the preceding take on the film, this time being set in modern day not in the 1930's and with Tom Cruise as the main protagonist. We also get to see the mummy herself, Princess Amunet, a woman who seeks only ruin for the world around her it seems.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis,Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. It is directed by Alex Kurtzman, written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie, produced by Alex Kurtzman, Chris Morgan, Sarah Bradshaw, and Sean Daniel, and will be released June 9, 2017.
