Warner Bros. Courts 'Lego Batman' Director Chris McKay For 'Nighwing' Film

Warner Bros. and DC Films are expanding the Bat Family as the beloved DC Comics character of Nightwing is getting his own film.

Negotiations have begun to get The LEGO Batman Movie helmer, Chris McKay on board as director for the film, which will be written by The Accountant scribe, Bill Dubuque.

Nightwing, aka Dick Grayson, is a member of the Batman family ever since being adopted by Bruce Wayne when his mother and father, the "Flying Graysons," were murdered. He was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane with illustrator Jerry Robinson, and was brought into the DC Comics world in Detective Comics #38 in April 1940. At first being he was the first Robin, he eventually earned himself a title in his own right as Nigthwing and became the leader of the Teen Titans, a team comprising of the younger generation of DC superheroes.

The character, cinematically speaking has not been introduced nor hinted to although Zack Snyder, director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, noted that a Robin has been killed before(many speculate that it is the Jason Todd incarnation of Robin not Grayson).

As of now it is with no release date but adds to the ever-growing line-up for DC Films, who currently have a Wonder Woman film coming out in June 2nd, a Justice League feature in November 17th, Aquaman in October 5th of next year, and are currently working on Gotham City Sirens, The Batman, The Flash, Shazam, Cyborg, and Green Lantern Corps with more in the pipeline.

McKay is just off making his first film directorial debut in The LEGO Batman Movie, which had Grayson in it.
