Legendary Pictures Sets Writers' Room For 'Godzilla vs. Kong'

Marvel Studios has theirs, DC Films is growing one, Paramount Pictures are making one, and now Legendary Pictures are building their own cinematic universe. But unlike Marvel, DC, or Paramount, it won't be for superheroes or Transformers, it will be for the big guys, the gigantic monsters of the cinema world.

The studio has set up a writers' room for one of their upcoming epic, Godzilla vs. Kong, which will be a culmination of their 2014 hit Godzilla, its sequel, and the recently released Kong: Skull Island - which has been getting a good buzz around it.

The room will be helmed by Terry Rossio, who has been made know for co-writing the Pirates of the Caribbean films. It will consist of Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, whose credits include Star Trek Beyond and eventually Star Trek 4; Lindsey Beer, who is working on adapting The Kingkiller Chronicles for Lionsgate; Cat Vasko, who is Warner Bros.’s scribe adapting the period circus love story, Queen of the Air; T.S. Nowlin, writer of the Maze Runner films and Legendary's Pacific Rim Uprising; And comic book writer J. Michael Straczynski, who created the 1990s sci-fi show Babylon 5, recently Straczynski writing credits includes penning World War Z and with the Wachowskis co-created the Netflix show Sense8.

Once the writers have consolidated ideas for the film's story, a writer will be tasked with writing the script.

This new cinematic universe is not only Legendary's interest but also Warner Brothers', the two are cultivating this universe together.

Currently Legendary is casting Godzilla: King of the Monsters - the sequel to Godzilla, which has Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown so far for its cast. It is slated for a March 22, 2019 release date. Godzilla vs Kong is eyeing a release of May 29, 2020.
