Michael Shannon, The Frontrunner To Play Cable For 'Deadpool 2'

It has now be revealed via Hollywood Reporter's sources that 20th Century Fox are eyeing up Michael Shannon as Cable for their upcoming comic-book film, Deadpool 2.

Shannon is the frontrunner to play the role although there are other candidates being kept in mind over at Fox. Stranger Things alum David Harbour is also on the shortlist. While it was whispered that Kyle Chandler was circling the project sources say that he was not an option for the studio.

The sequel to the 2016 hit Deadpool will have Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the Merc with the Mouth and has added Zazie Beetz as the Marvel character Domino - whose mutant capabilities are making her own luck. It is scheduled for a summer shoot in Vancouver.

Shannon would play Cable, who was created by Rob Liefeld - who co-created Deadpool - and Louise Simonson. The Marvel Comics character is the son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey's clone Madelyne Pryor from the future. He is a telepathic, telekinetic, technopathic cyborg who is not to be rivalled with. However stipulations may occur that block Shannon as he is booked to film the indie What They Had, which shoots this spring.

This would be his third venture into the comic-book film world having been in Jonah Hex and played the villainous Kryptonian General Zod in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

Deadpool 2 is to be directed by David Leitch and is written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese with Drew Goddard as a consultant writer.
