First Look At Matthew Vaughn's 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'

Among the comic-book films that are coming this year, there is one that is of a different breed. That is Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which will be the sequel to Matthew Vaughn's 2014 hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, which gave the young Taron Egerton his big break into stardom.

Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look at the September film.  Speaking to the outlet, Egerton discussed the sequel, noting that he has his apprehensions. “Just doing a sequel, you’re kind of violating that promise of originality,” he said. “Sequelitis is a plague I have no interest in contracting.”

And in the sequel, it looks like we will be getting something different and unique, as Vaughn is bringing new characters to the franchise, which is expected to become a trilogy. The new cast members include Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal representing the Statesman, America’s Kingsman equivalent. Also added to the cast is Julianne Moore as a Martha Stewart-ish global entrepreneur named Poppy with Elton John coming in as a “Vaughn-ized” (per the director) version of himself.

“If the first Kingsman was 'Captain America,'” Egerton said, “then this is very much 'The Avengers' now”

Egerton's Eggsy was a tough Londoner lad in the first film, which was the actors first film gig, and now in the second it looks like Egerton has a better understanding of how big the film will be. “For the first one, I felt like if I wasn’t really good then it wouldn’t work. This time, the story still unfolds through my eyes but this is still a true ensemble piece. And also, I’ve had a bit more experience. I’m not asking the crew what every piece of camera equipment does.”

Egerton won't be alone, as a Kingsman, in the second one as Mark Strong, who plays the senior-level Kingman Merlin, returns also teasing, “You can’t underestimate the draw of the new actors in this cast. I’ve had people say to me, ‘Wait, you’re kidding me with those names, right?” In this sequel it looks like Merlin, won't be put in the same espionage role. Romance will enter his life thanks to Halle Berry's American equivalent of Merlin.

“I quite like playing the tech nerd who can handle himself in a conflict situation,” Strong said. “But what I really like about this second film is that Merlin meets Halle Berry’s character, who plays his equivalent role in the Statesmen. And she had her clipboard and her glasses, just like Merlin. And what happens when two tech nerds come together?” Strong teases, “Might there be some geeky love?”

Not only are Egerton and Strong coming back for the sequel but also Colin Firth's Harry is set to return albeit in an unknown fashion as of now. Tricky thing bringing someone back from the dead, but it looks like they found a way.

“I’ve read the rumors, but I can’t reveal if I’m even in this film,” said Firth while being decked in his attire for the role on set last summer. “I got in the first Kingsman by virtue of my improbability. An actor known for chick flicks as a fighting badass. So given that irony, I’d say anything is possible.” Cheeky.
