New 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' Details Revealed By Matthew Vaughn

Earlier last week we got our first look at Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Golden Circle, well now we have another look at the film plus some more details about the sequel to the 2014 hit Kingsman: The Secret Service.

“There’s an opportunity with Kingsman 2 to make it bigger and bolder and funnier and crazier,” said Matthew Vaughn. One moment in the 2014 film showed us that Colin Firth is not to be messed with as he essentially massacred a full church congregation, so Vaughn must've went a step further for the sequel. “The church sequence, everyone wants something like that,” he continued. “But we’ve got action sequences which are just as original but different.”

In the first film we were introduced to Eggsy, who can be seen in the above still, and it looks like he is in for a ride in this one. “We’ve got a huge arc for Eggsy,” teased Vaughn. “Where does he go? What does he have to learn? And now he’s got a huge moral dilemma the audience will totally relate to.” On top of this, Eggsy will also have to deal with seeing Firth's Harry Hart, who was shot point blank in the first one, so naturally, things might escalate.

Joining Eggsy in this one will be some newcomers in the form of the espionage organisation Statesman, the American counterpart of Kingsman. In the new line-up there’s Halle Berry as the Statesmen’s tech guru, Ginger, Jeff Bridges as their leader, Agent Champagne (or Champ, as he prefers people to call them), and Pedro Pascal as Agent Jack, who teams up with Taron Egerton’s Kingsman, Eggsy, to try to take down Julianne Moore’s Poppy, a megalomaniacal villain Vaughn describes as “America’s sweetheart gone wrong”.

From the second still we get a new glimpse at Channing Tatum as one of those Statesmen, a cocky cowboy spy codenamed Agent Tequila. “They’re great characters,” said Vaughn about these new characters. “They’re multi-billionaires with huge jets, and their base is a giant distillery in Kentucky.” Hence the alcohol-related codenames. "We’ve got all this fun Americana and we’re combining it with the Englishness.”

Kingsman: The Golden Circle releases 29 September.
