Lucy Liu To Direct 'Luke Cage' Season Two Premiere

Marvel Television and Netflix have announced that Lucy Liu will indeed direct the season two premiere of Marvel's Luke Cage.

While she was spotted on set earlier this year, it has now been confirmed that she is indeed putting her directorial efforts into the series' second season premiere. Liu's helming background includes a 2011 short film called Meena and a string of episodes of her series Elementary.

The show's showrunner and one of its executive producers, Cheo Hodari Coker said in a statement, “Lucy and I have been tight since our ‘SouthLAnd’ days and she’s a welcome addition to our Luke Cage family. She brings the same buoyant intensity, deft humour, and singular focus to her directing that she has always brought to her acting….not to mention the fact that the former ‘O’Ren Ishii’ certainly knows her way around an action sequence. Her enthusiasm is infectious.”

Liu added: “What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters. It is such an honour to work with such a passionate and fearless team.”

“When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof Director,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb. “Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors.  She is rocking Luke Cage 2.”

Marvel's Luke Cage second season will premiere sometime in 2018 exclusively on Netflix.
